Important note to all=
Mini
Coaches –
Basketball
It is important to
understand what is not mentioned in the Mini Rules –
For example, the rule
permitting substitutions only in timeouts has been removed –
substitutions can be made at any whistle, as per the FIBA rules. HOWEVER,
players can still only participate in two segments in the first half, and f=
ive segments
in the game. A player who participates for even =
one
second in a segment, is considered to have participated in that segment, an=
d it
will count toward his maximums.
A team no longer need=
s ten
players to start a game – HOWEVER, the segment participation rules st=
ill
apply. This might become important if there was a storm, for example, and o=
nly
eight players were available at the start of the game. The coach may elect =
to
start five players in the first segment, hoping
additional players will arrive in time for segment two.
Or the coach may elec=
t to
play four players in each segment, or the coach may elect to go with 5 play=
ers
in segment one and 3 players in segment two. All scenarios are acceptable, =
so
long as no one plays more than 2 segments in the first half and 5 in the ga=
me.
The penalty situation= now applies on quarters, rather than halves. Shoot on the 5th foul.<= o:p>
Timeouts are now allo=
cated
as two in the first half and three in the second half, non-cumulative.
